Who We Help
At The Confident Mind, we help senior leaders, managers, and their teams to understand themselves and other each other better, and significantly improve team performance.

Bringing Your Team’s Story to Life
We believe in bringing the stories of the people we work with to life. To explain how our Performance Edge programmes work, we’ve created fictional avatars representing the types of individuals and teams we support. These show how the programme helps people understand themselves and other team members, significantly improving team performance.

Clare’s Story
Team Integration, Communication and Confidence
Clare leads the sales team in a medium sized software development business. After a company restructure, she needed to integrate two new young team members and support the pre-existing team in adapting to changes in their roles and responsibilities.
Having identified some communication issues between team members, she decided this was an essential area to focus on to improve efficiency and facilitate professional development.
With some prior knowledge of NLP techniques, Clare realised how useful these could be for her team. We worked with her to design a tailored Performance Edge programme incorporating an introduction to the principles of NLP that underpin what the team were going to be doing, followed by two sessions in which they learnt and practiced techniques that have a deep impact on the quality and ease of communication.
The programme was delivered live in three half day sessions, all including interactive practical activities.
We introduced and explored the principles of NLP:
‘The Map is not the Territory’, ‘There is no Failure only Feedback’,
‘The Iceberg’ – The Conscious and Unconscious Mind,
‘Every Action has a Positive Intention’ and The Four Pillars of NLP, which make up The Model of Excellence. These principles underpin success in achieving positive change in all areas.
Communication Part 1: We investigated the process of communication and how to get in touch with your own individual communication style. We introduced NLP Representational Systems and how system preferences show up in people’s everyday language, and how this can be used to improve communication between individuals and in teams.
Communication Part 2: We introduced NLP Perceptual Positions which is a technique for understanding the points of view, feelings and desired outcomes of other people. The team practised the technique with each other using real situations and explored future scenarios where it will help them. We discussed how to bring Representational Systems and Perceptual Positions together to maximise the effectiveness of communication in verbal and written form.
Transforming Team Relationships in Action
In the weeks after the programme was completed Clare reported a noticeable improvement in the interactions and relationships of the team, particularly between two members who had previously had some issues.
Clare still had concerns about the performance of the two new team members, both of whom she felt were not achieving their potential due to lack of confidence. Having had very positive feedback from the team after our initial programme, she again requested our help.
We recommended tailored one-to-one NLP coaching to help these team members build their self-belief
The two new team members each had three 60-90-minute in-person 1-2-1 coaching sessions spread over six weeks. After the sessions, both reported that they felt more at ease in the work environment, more confident to share their ideas and to work independently. Clare confirmed a clear improvement in engagement and performance and went on to recommend one of the coachees for an accelerated training course in recognition of their outstanding progress.

Adam’s Journey
From Struggles to Success with The Performance Edge
Adam was recently promoted to team leader at a pharmaceutical company—a well-deserved step up in his career. However, the promotion came with unexpected challenges. Overnight, he found himself managing a group of colleagues who, until then, had been his equals. These were people he’d shared drinks and laughs with on Friday nights. Now, he was responsible for keeping them on track and delivering results.
The shift in dynamics was palpable. While the banter still flowed, it no longer felt lighthearted. Subtle issues began to emerge: team members showing up late, dragging their feet on internal deadlines, and a general resistance to the new structure. Adam felt stuck. He didn’t want to lose their friendship, but he also had targets to meet and a boss to report to.
Frustrated but determined, Adam attended a free workshop run by The Confident Mind. One of the exercises stood out: stepping into someone else’s shoes to understand their perspective. This simple yet powerful activity shifted his thinking. Adam realised he’d been viewing the challenges solely from his own perspective, not considering how his team might be experiencing the changes.
Eager to dive deeper, Adam shared what he’d learned with his manager. She was impressed with his initiative and, recognising the value of the workshop, agreed to explore further training opportunities. Together, they booked a consultation with The Confident Mind.
The result was a tailored Performance Edge programme for Adam’s team, starting with a half-day introduction to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and followed by two sessions on time management. The team found the sessions so engaging and practical that they decided to complete the entire course, covering stress management, communication styles, and more.
The transformation was remarkable
Team members began communicating more effectively, laughing about their newfound understanding of each other’s communication styles and even their ‘timelines.’ Deadlines became less of a battle, with colleagues supporting one another to stay on track. Two team members, previously overwhelmed by stress, adopted stress management techniques that made them easier to work with—even during crunch times.
For Adam, the changes were life changing. The team’s performance improved significantly, but more importantly, the atmosphere shifted. His colleagues saw the effort he was putting into his leadership role and stepped up to support him. Adam felt confident and capable, knowing his promotion had been a step in the right direction.
Through the Performance Edge programme, Adam and his team not only achieved their targets but also created a positive, collaborative work environment that continues to thrive.
